OSOGBO, Osun State — Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has widened his lead in the ongoing Osun State governorship election as results from 331 of the state’s 332 wards were reflected in the latest election result update.

According to figures displayed on the election results dashboard and independently reported by Vanguard following a check of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal, Adeleke had polled 461,876 votes, representing 49.7 percent of the valid votes recorded so far.

His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had secured 404,713 votes, representing 43.6 percent.

The figures place Adeleke 57,163 votes ahead of the APC candidate, with only one of Osun’s 332 wards yet to report at the time of the latest update.

Adeleke Maintains Advantage

The latest figures represent a significant increase from earlier provisional results, when Adeleke held a much narrower lead as counting and collation progressed across the state.

With 331 wards now accounted for, the Accord candidate remains in front as the race moves closer to completion.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, was in third position with 15,685 votes, while Olanrewaju Farinloye of the Action Alliance had recorded 4,889 votes, according to the latest figures reported from the dashboard.

Latest voter statistics also showed approximately 928,500 valid votes, while about 20,200 ballots were rejected. About 954,900 voters were reported to have been accredited, placing turnout at approximately 44 percent.

IReV Upload Above 93%

The result-upload process has also moved closer to completion, with about 93.4 percent of polling-unit results reflected on the platform at the time of the update.

The screenshot of the latest figures showed 331 of 332 wards reporting, with the polling-unit upload rate at about 93.41 percent.

Vanguard subsequently reported a marginally higher figure of 93.47 percent following its check of the INEC Result Viewing Portal, indicating that additional polling-unit results were continuing to arrive.

Race Not Yet Officially Over

Despite Adeleke’s substantial lead, the figures remain provisional.

INEC has not yet formally declared a winner of the election, and the candidate with the highest figures displayed on a result-viewing platform cannot be described as governor-elect until the statutory collation process has been completed and the Returning Officer makes an official declaration.

The outstanding ward, as well as any remaining polling-unit results and the formal collation of local government totals, therefore, remain important before a final result can be announced.

Osun Awaits INEC Declaration

The election has largely developed into a two-way contest between Adeleke, who is seeking another term as governor on the Accord platform, and Oyebamiji, the APC candidate seeking to return Osun State to the ruling party at the federal level.

With 461,876 votes against Oyebamiji’s 404,713, Adeleke currently holds a 57,163-vote advantage, equivalent to a gap of about 6.1 percentage points between the two leading candidates.

Attention is now firmly focused on INEC as Osun residents, political parties, and observers await the completion of collation and the commission’s official declaration of the winner.
