ABUJA, Nigeria — The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the arrival of Jimmy Mauldin as its new Deputy Chief of Mission, saying the diplomat has assumed duties in Abuja and is beginning engagements aimed at strengthening relations between both countries.
In an introductory message, the U.S. Mission said Mauldin brings extensive international experience, having lived and worked across West Africa, South Asia and other regions during his diplomatic career.
The Mission said the new Deputy Chief of Mission is keen to deepen his understanding of Nigeria, its people, culture and national priorities as he begins his assignment.
Beyond diplomacy, Mauldin was described as having interests in good food, friendship, country music and American college football, particularly the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The U.S. Mission also invited Nigerians to help introduce the diplomat to the country’s diverse culture by recommending popular local dishes, including suya, egusi soup and jollof rice.
Nigerians were equally encouraged to identify areas they believe should receive priority attention during his tenure, with trade, innovation, education and security highlighted among key issues in Nigeria-U.S. relations.
The arrival of Mauldin comes as Nigeria and the United States continue engagements across economic cooperation, security, education, technology and other areas of bilateral interest.
