ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, appointing former Zamfara State governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as its director-general.

The council’s composition was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu will serve as chairman of the council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will occupy the positions of first and second vice chairmen respectively.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed secretary, with APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, serving as deputy secretary. Hadiza Bala Usman was named assistant secretary.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin were appointed deputy directors-general for the southern and northern regions.

Former APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole will oversee mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will handle administration. James Faleke was returned as deputy director-general responsible for election planning, coordination and monitoring.

The council also appointed Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu as South-South coordinator, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for the South-East and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the South-West.

Niger State Governor Umar Bago will coordinate the North-Central, former Borno State governor Modu Sheriff will oversee the North-East, while Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani will lead campaign activities in the North-West.

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu will coordinate media and strategic communication. Segun Dada was retained as director of new media.

The council also includes directorates for finance, legal affairs, security and intelligence, fundraising, policy development, data management, youth and women mobilisation, grassroots engagement, welfare and digital operations.

Tinubu charged members to publicise the administration’s achievements, broaden the party’s support and work towards securing victory in the 2027 presidential election. He also encouraged directorate leaders to involve qualified party members who were not included in the published list.

Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress has criticised parts of the council’s composition, questioning the inclusion of former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Betta Edu and former Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund chairman Ngozi Olejeme. The opposition party demanded clarification on the status of previous investigations involving the two women. Both have denied wrongdoing in the matters associated with them.

The campaign council is expected to coordinate the APC’s nationwide mobilisation as political activities gather momentum ahead of the election.
