The governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party in Osun State, Engr. Olufemi Adesuyi, has warned that rising political violence could threaten the credibility of the August 15, 2026 governorship election. The Sun reported that Adesuyi made the warning in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Adesuyi, described the reported killings in parts of the state as disturbing, stressing that no political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen.

According to him, politics should be a contest of ideas, competence and service to the people, not a violent struggle that endangers lives and threatens democratic values.

“We must not allow desperation to turn our democracy into a bloodbath,” Adesuyi said. “No position, no matter how highly placed, is worth wasting human blood for.”

He urged politicians and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid actions capable of creating fear among voters before, during and after the election.

Adesuyi also appealed to political actors across party lines to place the interest of Osun State above personal or partisan ambition, adding that political differences should not turn citizens into enemies.

“Election is not war. We must conduct ourselves peacefully, responsibly and with respect for one another,” he said.

The ZLP candidate called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in the state to take proactive steps to prevent further breakdown of law and order. He also urged them to arrest and prosecute anyone found responsible for political violence, regardless of party affiliation.

Adesuyi further encouraged eligible voters in Osun State to come out on election day to exercise their constitutional right, assuring them that peaceful participation remains essential to credible democratic governance.

He appealed to the electorate to support his governorship ambition, promising to promote good governance, integrity, accountability, economic prosperity and sustainable development if elected.
