
The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of candidates contesting the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. The commission announced that the deadline, initially fixed for midnight on Saturday, July 11, 2026, had been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.INEC disclosed the extension in a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee. According to the commission, the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload their candidates’ details within the original timeline.INEC said the extension reflected its commitment to promoting inclusivity while operating within the provisions of the law. The electoral body urged political parties to use the additional period to submit all required information before the new deadline expires. The commission warned that the extended window would close at midnight on Tuesday, July 14.
