This year’s edition drew an overwhelming response, receiving over one thousand entries from tertiary institutions across all geopolitical zones of the country.

Tackling Nigeria’s Digital Frontier

The 2026 competition challenged the nation’s brightest future legal minds to dissect a critical, contemporary issue: “Freedom of Speech versus Content Moderation in the Digital Era: Striking the Balance in Nigerian Law.”

According to a statement released by the firm’s management, the theme was chosen to address the growing tension in Nigeria’s expanding digital landscape. Students were tasked with analyzing how the law can protect free expression while effectively curbing the real-world harms of unregulated online content.

“The quality of submissions received this year reaffirms our confidence in the future of legal scholarship and practice in Nigeria.” — Management, Adeola Oyinlade & Co.

A Rigorous Evaluation Process

With more than 1,000 submissions to review, the firm noted that this year’s edition was one of the most closely contested in the competition’s history. A dedicated panel of judges evaluated the entries based on:

  • Depth of legal research
  • Originality of thought
  • Rigour and analytical sharpness
  • Clarity of legal reasoning

The firm expressed its deep gratitude to the judging panel for the immense time, care, and fairness they brought to the multi-stage evaluation process.

Celebrating All Participants

While the final winners emerged from an exceptionally competitive field, Adeola Oyinlade & Co. commended every student who stepped up to the challenge. The firm emphasized that engaging with such a complex subject requires immense intellectual curiosity, discipline, and courage.

To honor their hard work, all participants whose entries complied with the competition guidelines will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.

Management concluded the announcement by thanking the judges, media partners, and supporters who made the 2026 edition a resounding success, adding that the firm is already looking forward to next year’s competition.
