The House of Representatives has set aside its own constitutional amendment bill seeking to create state police and has begun consideration of a similar proposal submitted by the Executive.

The decision was taken during Tuesday’s plenary, when lawmakers gave the Executive-sponsored bill its first and second readings.

After scaling the second reading, the bill was referred to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative work.

The development means the lawmakers’ earlier proposal will no longer be pursued for now, as the House shifts its attention to the Executive-backed amendment.

The committee is expected to review the bill’s provisions and present its recommendations to the House for further debate and possible approval..
